Abstract

A system and method for monitoring the state of a crystal (C) which is suspended in a solution is disclosed which includes providing a light source (10) for emitting a beam (12) of light along an optical axis (X). A collimating lens is arranged along the optical axis for collimating the emitted beam to provide a first collimated light beam (16) consisting of parallel light rays. The solution and crystal are contained in a transparent container (18). By passing the first collimated light beam through the container, a number of the parallel light rays are deflected off of the surfaces of said crystal being monitored according to the refractive index gradient to provide a deflected beam (19) of deflected light rays. A focusing lens (22) is arranged along the optical axis for focusing the deflected rays (32, 34, 48, 50) towards a desired focal point (24a). A knife edge (24) is arranged in a predetermined orientation at the focal point; and a screen (26) is provided.

Abstract

A method of quality control for loan processing employing a quality assurance shopper. The shopper is flagged in the loan processing system so that the shopper advances through the loan application and decision process without adversely affecting the individual's credit history or real property. A credit bureau is fabricated for the quality assurance shopper in the loan processing system based on a pre-determined test scenario and an existing customer's credit information. To facilitate the loan decision process, the shopper's real estate information is requested from a service company. The service company cooperates with the lender by processing quality assurance shopper flagged orders separately from other received orders. Elements of the quality assurance shopper's information are used to look up recently filled real estate information requests. Fabricated property information for the quality assurance shopper is returned to the lender. The loan is funded and the shopper evaluates the lender's business practices, customer service, and regulatory compliance.

Abstract

Monotectic alloys having aligned spherical particles or rods of the minor component dispersed in a matrix of the major component are prepared by forming a melt containing predetermined amounts of the major and minor components of a chosen monotectic system, providing in the melt a dopant capable of breaking down the liquid-solid interface for the chosen alloy, and directionally solidifying the melt at a selected temperature gradient and a selected rate of movement of the liquid-solid interface (growth rate). Shaping of the minor component into spheres or rods and the spacing therebetween are controlled by the amount of dopant and the temperature gradient and growth rate values. Specific alloy systems include Al-Bi,Al-Pb and Zn-Bi, using a transition element such as iron.
